Cyprus is a natural mountain-biking place. Its terrain offers many opportunities for exciting mountain-biking in different tracks, making the island a paradise for the sport’s fans. Due to the excellent weather conditions prevailing on the island, cycling sports can be enjoyed almost throughout the year. The short distances and diversity of routes mean that there are rapid changes of terrain with a variety of different road surfaces from rocky to clay and steep to flat, and different landscapes combining attractive beaches, modern cities, vineyards and old tranquil villages. The Cycle Club (Podilatokinisis) the Cycling Federation’s own club, organises various non racing cycling activities and events where everyone is welcome to participate. Follow one of the many cycling routes or even make your own. Set the pace you desire whether training or leisure and feel your lungs with fresh air while making your bit to fight global warming and protect the environment.

Cyprus offers excellent opportunities to athletes who wish to combine swimming or water polo training with their holidays. Cyprus’ swimming venues all offer excellent facilities for training in combination with amenities for an enjoyable group or team holiday. Various 25m and 50m pools exist in all major towns used by international and club swimmers of all ages. Some are heated, with lanes, starting blocks, diving boards and underwater viewing windows. A number of these pools belong to hotels so can be combined with accommodation and all other facilities, including gyms and health clubs or spas. Others are national training pools which are part of much larger training centres catering for many sports including athletics and football, and include changing rooms, showers, toilets, gymnastics facilities and weight lifting rooms, kiosks for snacks and refreshments.

Shooting is very popular in Cyprus and the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation is very active, organizing local, national and international events, as well as providing facilities in every town, covering the trap, skeet, double trap and sporting disciplines. Arms and ammunition are safely stored, while shooting centers offer also a number of facilities including cafeterias.

The climatic conditions, the unpolluted sea and the interesting coastline, make Cyprus an interesting and up-coming destination for yachting. Two marinas, 5 ports and numerous bays provide shelter from the prevailing moderate westerlies. Even during the winter months, the European Yachtsmen will be surprised by the temperate sailing conditions - with air and sea temperatures around 17C - competing with early summer back home. Larnaka Marina, an official Port of Entry, has berthing facilities for 450 yachts of all sizes. The marina is situated in the bay of Larnaka and lies 110 nautical miles from Beirut, 182 n.m. from Tel Aviv, 230 n.m. from Port Said and 300 n.m. from Rhodes. St. Raphael Marina in Lemesos is ideal for motor and sailing yacht enthusiasts. It has 227 berths which can accommodate a variety of vessels.

A perfect fusion of athletics and aesthetics, gymnastics ranks among the defining sports of the Olympic Games. Mixing strength and agility with style and grace, the high-flying acrobats have provided many of the most breathtaking Olympic spectacles of the past quarter-century. In Cyprus, most sporting clubs include grounds and facilities for gymnastics.
